Bocheng Wang: was born in Lanzhou, China in 1997. He started learning the piano with his grandfather at the age of five. When he was 12 he completed grade 8 and began studying at Junior Xi’an Conservatory of Music in China with Bo Chen. In China Bocheng won several competitions including Third Prize in the Junior Third ‘KAWAI’ Asian Piano Competition, Second Prize in the Junior Shanghai International Piano Competition, Second prize at the Second Shanxi Musical Instrument Competition and First prize at the Second Hong Kong Piano Open Tournament.
In 2011, Bocheng started studying with Professor Christopher Elton; he joined The Purcell School and Junior department of Royal Academy Of Music the following year. His studies at The Purcell School were supported via the school’s Scholarship Fund by The Samuel Gardner Memorial Trust. Since joining Purcell, Bocheng has won The Purcell School Middle School Piano Concerto Competition and performed Chopin’s concerto No.1 with Sinfonia Orchestra under Edward Longstaff. More recently he won the Second Prize at The Purcell School Senior Concerto Competition which will lead to a performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 with The Purcell Symphony Orchestra at the Watford Colosseum in October 2016. He has participated in masterclass with Professor John O’Conner, Angela Cheng, Arie Vardi, Andrzej Jansinki, and Erik T. Tawaststjerna.
Bocheng has performed in prestigious venues such as the Fazioli Hall in Sacile, Italy, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and at London’s Kings Place, Wigmore Hall both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He has also enjoyed performing in Goslar and Ettlingen in Germany and in the USA, becoming a finalist in the senior category of the Ettlingen International Piano Competition. In 2015, Bocheng won the Croydon Arts Performing Festival Concerto Competition and made his debut with Dulwich Symphony Orchestra under Leigh O’Hara and London Mozart Players Chamber Orchestra under Dominic Peckham in Fairfield Concert Hall in the following year, he also has been invited to meet the Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. Other competition success include Third Prize at the Fourth Young Pianist of the North International Piano Competition and First Prize in the Iris Dyer Piano Competition at the Royal Academy of Music. Bocheng will soon begin a concert tour of England as a result of being awarded Second Prize in the Liszt International Society Piano Prize Competition.
Alongside his piano studies, Bocheng enjoys composing and his composition has been recently recorded and performed. He also was a member of The Purcell School Chamber Choir, with whom he has performed in venues such as St. Martin-in-the-Field’s Church and Westminster Abbey.
Bocheng is now continue his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where he has been awarded a full scholarship for his four year undergraduate programme.
