Hailing from Oldham in Greater Manchester, Benjamin is currently a horn player studying for an MA at the Royal Academy of Music with a scholarship under the tutelage of Michael Thompson, Richard Watkins, Martin Owen and David Pyatt.
Benjamin is a fervent advocate for ensemble music and played principal horn with the Oxford University Orchestra in Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra and Mahler’s 9th Symphony under the baton of Natalia Luis-Bassa. Benjamin was also a founding member of Spectacle Brass and the Ostro Quintet and performed in the world premiere of Thomas Carr’s Sextet for Wind Sextet.
His ensemble experience aside, Benjamin is no stranger to solo performance and on this basis was recipient of funds from the Countess of Munster Trust, awarded a music grant by Merton College and one of the prize winners for the Pendle Young Musician Bursary. He has also been booked to perform Dukas’ Villanelle with Xenophon Kelsey OBE and the Vacation Chamber Orchestra.
Aside from horn playing, Benjamin enjoys fell walking and is fascinated by medieval history, a period which became the core of his degree in history from Oxford University.
