Benjamin Cox-Smith is a professional flamenco guitarist providing authentic live flamenco and Spanish guitar for weddings, drinks receptions, private parties, restaurants, corporate events and Spanish-themed events. Performing solo with his own amplification, Benjamin can provide anything from relaxed, atmospheric Spanish guitar for a drinks reception or dinner to a more focused traditional flamenco performance. For clients looking for a larger flamenco experience, he can also perform with a flamenco singer and/or dancer. Benjamin has performed professionally throughout the UK and Ireland and has studied flamenco extensively in both the UK and Spain, including living and studying in Jerez de la Frontera. His training covers both solo flamenco guitar and accompaniment, and he has attended masterclasses with leading flamenco guitarists including Paco Serrano and Dani de Morón. Based in Sussex, Benjamin performs throughout Sussex, Kent, Surrey, London and further afield.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients often comment on the atmosphere the music creates. Flamenco can work beautifully as atmospheric background music, but it can also become the focus of the event. I can adapt the performance to suit the occasion, while keeping the music authentic.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I’ve performed at theatres and arts venues throughout the entire UK and Ireland as a solo act, with singers and dancers and as part of the Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company, as well as at weddings, restaurants, bars and private events across the South East and beyond.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My main influences include Paco de Lucía, Vicente Amigo, Sabicas Dani del Morao and Dani de Morón, alongside the many flamenco guitarists, singers and dancers I’ve studied and performed with in the UK and Spain

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Touring with the Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company has been my highest-profile work. Almost every show sold out, with some venues hosting several sold-out performances in a single day. Across the tours, we performed to tens of thousands of people throughout the UK and Ireland.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Timings are flexible - provided they don't clash with another commitment I'm happy to accommodate changes when I can

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, I can select music or play a playlist you give me for before/between sets

How much time do you need to set up?

10 to 30 mins depending on venue/whether it's solo or group performance, however I like to set up an hour beforehand to avoid any last minute problems. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes, you can choose anything from the set list, or I can create sets for you

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, I have full PA

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes, however the charge will be dependant on the complexity of the piece, please get in contact with individual requests and I'll be able to quote for them once I've heard the piece.
