Avelia Moisey

From West End pit orchestras to solo trumpeter/singer/songwriter … As a professional trumpet player who has always loved to sing, Avelia now combines the two … and has added songwriting and recording into the bargain. Avelia's solo act is based on jazz standards and show tunes, but she thrives on the diversity of genres that she has performed – from a basis of classical music, followed by jazz, and on to soca, Latin, funk, South African township, and function bands – these influences shine through in her music. As a trumpeter/singer, Avelia can be booked as solo with backing tracks, or as duo with a pianist. As a trumpeter, Avelia will fit into your band/orchestra, or play solo, e.g. with organ for weddings etc. Avelia has worked as a freelance, professional trumpet player, since studying at the Royal Academy of Music. With eclectic musical tastes, she finds the opportunity to play a wide variety of music, and musical styles, very enjoyable – from West End musicals (including Jolson, Calamity Jane, Cats, Starlight Express, Oliver & many more); touring with Marti Webb, and Jane MacDonald; classical orchestras; jazz, funk, soca, Latin, soul and function bands; through to her own enterprises – No Problem (jazz fusion band); The Little Big Band (jazz duo with Bruce Boardman); and even a classical partnership with her pianist brother, Alvin Moisey. A highlight of the latter was giving the World Premiere of the Sonata for Trumpet & Piano by Ian Hughes at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in 2002.
