Aurora Quartet

The Aurora Quartet, based in Aberdeen, was formed by a group of local and highly experienced musicians. Aden Mazur - Violin An established member of the Aberdeen music scene, Aden is a regular player with many of the local orchestras including Aberdeen Sinfonietta, Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra, Grampian Concert Orchestra and the Haddo House orchestra. Since 2013, Aden has been leader for many sell out performances of shows in the Edinburgh Fringe including Les Miserables, Oliver!, Oh! What A Lovely War, and Sunshine on Leith. Alongside his orchestral career, Aden is an active Musical Director, most recently assisting with the Aberdeen Art Centre Theatre's pantomime Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, and their recent production of Cabaret (2016). Alexandria Grant - Violin After receiving a Diploma in Violin from ABRSM while still at school, Alexandria has gone on to be leader of many orchestra including the Grampian Youth Orchestra and the Scottish Opera Connect Orchestra where she performed the premier of Anamchara by renowned composer Pippa Murphy. Laurie Rominger - Viola Laurie holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in viola performance from Louisiana State University. She has performed around the globe in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo recitals. She is especially passionate about string chamber music, and performs duo and quartet repertoire regularly in both Scotland and North Carolina. Currently, Laurie is based in Aberdeen, where she works as Senior Musician with Big Noise Torry and teaches viola at the University of Aberdeen. Martin Couzin - Cello Originally from Ellon, Martin studied at Chetham’s School of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before moving to the north of England. There he enjoyed a busy freelance career playing, recording and touring with many orchestras and ensembles including Northern Ballet, Manchester Concert Orchestra, Skipton Camerata and the National Festival Orchestra. He also recorded with bands such as Mull Historical Society, Embrace and Submotion Orchestra as well as playing with west end touring company productions of Matilda and Assassins. As a cello teacher he has worked at Hymers College, Ampleforth College and Queen Ethelburgas Collegiate. He was delighted to return to beautiful Aberdeenshire to work for the Instrumental Music Service in 2020. Emily De Simone - Cello An experienced cellist, Emily has performed with Royal National Scottish Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera, Ensemble Thing, Red Note, Auricle Ensemble and Alba Quartet. In 2019 she was awarded Made in Scotland funding and created an hour-long live cello and audiovisual show called Systems Theory which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Being Human Festival and at the CCA in Glasgow. Since moving to Aberdeen to work for Big Noise Torry, Emily enjoys playing with Aurora Quartet, Outwith Ensemble, Granite Ensemble and the Thistle Quartet. Emily is also a certified Feldenkrais practitioner and loves growing flowers and going wild swimming.
