About Ashley Dean

A vocalist with loads of performing experience; also an experienced backing singer who can pick up harmonies rather quickly!
Singer
Loughton
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Originally from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Ashley trained in pop, musical theatre and opera through private lessons before moving to the UK in 2014. You can't imagine the number of VHS tapes at her dad's place that are full of her singing into an imaginary microphone... She has been sharing her vocals with the world for as long as I can remember. From school talent shows (cue some cringey songwriting!) to church and school choir solos, Ashley was always out in front making sure her voice was heard. As a result, her repertoire is varied, comprising years of classical and theatre singing with a mix of pop, rock and gospel. It's not uncommon to hear her belting out AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell' one night and then an 'Ave Maria' at a wedding the next evening! What Ashley loves about music is that it always manages to being people together. The magic that happens when a room is lively and singing along, or waiting on that one special powerhouse note in a ballad - that's why she does what she does. It's that connection of being in the moment and sharing that moment with the audience. Some of Ashley's experiences have included performances at the Royal Albert Hall, on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, The One Show and Songs of Praise: Gospel Choir of the Year (BBC) and The Last Leg (Channel 4). She was lucky enough to be part of a choir supporting grime artist Stormzy at his V Fest appearance in Chelmsford in 2017. In the past, Ashley has sung with Singology Choir, the Mark De-Lisser Singers (formerly the ACM Gospel Choir) and London Jazz Choir and she has been performing as a member of Gospeloke for five years. Ashley fronts the band The Accents, a London-based covers group, and also sings backing vocals for the band Red Town. She is available for solo performances, depping with bands, backing and session work.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I sing in a wide variety of genres - they're never sure which banger they're going to hear next! I think my versatility and the fact that I always have a great time on stage helps to get the crowd more engaged in the music. I also make sure I look the part - I've always got the right outfit for the occasion and ensure I'm professional yet friendly.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London; Royal Albert Hall, London; Royal Festival Hall - Southbank Centre, London; Wigmore Hall, London; V Festival Main Stage Chelmsford; DW Stadium, Wigan; Headingley Stadium, Leeds

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I grew up listening to the divas - Mariah, Whitney, Beyoncé - and as I got older I listened to more AC work by Josh Groban. I used to sing quite regularly in school and at church as a child/teen so I've a large repertoire of sacred music as well, which ties into my more operatic side.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I was fortunate to perform the Canadian National Anthem (O Canada) at two Rugby League World Cup matches in November 2022; these were broadcast internationally on the BBC and other networks. It was wonderful to be able to represent my country and feel the spirit of the team as they prepared for each match!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Please let me know as soon as possible - I want to make sure I'm there with enough time to set up and ensure everything is sounding great for your event! Events that run late will be considered on an ad-hoc basis, pending travel arrangements and compensation as required.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I don't have a mixing board but I'm happy to put an iPod into my PA if you like - it'll be an additional £50 for an hour.

How much time do you need to set up?

I prefer to set up an hour before doors open to allow for any sound checking/audio issues to be sorted out.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I'm happy to chat through my list of tracks and customise the list to suit your event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I have a small PA I use for small events; anything more than this will be an additional hire fee and travel arrangements may need to be made to accommodate. If a venue has its own PA, I am happy to plug in and play! I have my own mic, stand, tablet holder and cables, as well as backing tracks to sing to.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

There may be a chance I already know the song - let me know and we can work together. Alternatively, if I need to learn something new and purchase an additional track, there will be a £25 fee for this to allow for rehearsal and any additional recording.

I first met Ashley in June 2022 at a rehearsal studio in Essex in the lead up to a charity gig I was involved in organising. As I approached the studio I was instantly engaged by these incredible vocals I could hear (& that was before I was inside!) I sat quietly, taking everything in, observing & listening to a different range of songs that Ashley went through in rehearsal. I think that's what impressed me the most...the range. Different covers of different songs, different genres too. She could do the lot! So powerful. I met & spoke with her & it was clear her passion for music and singing was immense. By the time the actual gig came... Oh boy! Energy, enthusiasm & interaction with the crowd was insane! This lady is a natural born performer with a god-given voice. The event was hugely successful & the folks I was speaking to afterwards were as impressed as I with Ashley's vocals. Pure Entertainment.
