Ashley Brandon

I am an amateur player based in Glasgow, former student of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I began playing the bassoon at the age of 11 in high school. As the years progressed I became involved with more orchestras and bands, joining the Glasgow School's Symphony Orchestra in 2009, along with Glasgow School's Concert Band. In 2011 I auditioned for the Junior Conservatoire in Glasgow and was accepted. Under the guidance of Janet Bloxwich I became a more competent player, and became more involved in the amateur orchestral scene and taking part in competitions. In 2014 I was commended in the Gilbert Innes Prize for Woodwind. I have been involved with various groups and orchestras, including Scottish Opera Connect, Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, Strathclyde University Symphony Orchestra, Glasgow University Kelvin Ensemble, St James Orchestra Paisley and Glasgow Wind Band. Between 2014 and 2017 I assisted bassoon teaching in Glasgow School's Symphony Orchestra, taking bassoon sectionals during residentials and playing alongside the students in the orchestra.
