I am a vibrant and versatile young soprano based in the North West, building a career on the operatic stage and concert platform.
Soprano April Elizabeth Grime hails from Bury, Lancashire and graduated with a BA Hons in Music from Bangor University in 2014, having specialised in vocal performance and musicology. Whilst there, April received performance and language scholarships, the Bangor School of Music Prize upon graduation, and studied under Marian Bryfdir. April went on to study with Anne Williams-King, alongside regular courses and concerts with the North Wales Opera Studio. April is currently undertaking her Masters in Music Performance at the University of Leeds, and now studies with Sarah Estill. April has established herself as an exciting singing actress. April's operatic roles include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Inez (cover) Il Trovatore (for Opera Seria), Climene L'Egisto, Adina L'Elisir D'Amore (abridged), and Sister Genevieve Suor Angelica (Bangor University Opera). April recently performed the role of Zerlina in an award-winning North West tour of Don Giovanni for Opera Seria, and sang the role of Marguerite in Faust for Opera74. She will be singing Musetta in Leeds Youth Opera's La Boheme at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds in February 2018. In demand as a concert and gala soloist, April's recent performances have taken her to Llangollen International Eisteddfod World Stage, several engagements as concert soloist for Saddleworth Male Voice Choir, the London Welsh Male Voice Choir, Hornsea Music Society, the Chapel-en-le-Frith Ladies Choir, and a recital at St Mary in the Baum Church. Her future engagements will take her to the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, where she will be singing soloist Soprano 2 in Mahler's Eighth Symphony with Wrexham Symphony Orchestra. April has worked in masterclasses with a wide range of vocal experts including Anne Williams-King, Mary King, Rhys Meirion and Donald Maxwell. In December 2015, April was invited to sing with the newly formed North Wales Opera Studio, directed by the renowned Anne Williams-King, who praised her "natural stage presence". She continues to train and perform with the studio and has performed many operatic scenes including La Boheme (Mimi), Cosi fan tutte (Fiordiligi) and Le nozze di Figaro (Countess). April returned as a soloist to sing at Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July 2017, with further appearances to come in 2018, including a operatic concert with the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra at the William Aston Hall, Wrexham, and touring concerts for the Northumbrian Music Festival. April is an experienced singing teacher, with a growing private clientele. She also uses her varied performance skills and natural enthusiasm to teach for Performing Arts Academies, facilitate music and drama workshops, and lead choirs throughout the North West. April is available for weddings, funerals, corporate events and concerts, and would be delighted to sing at your event.
