History/how it all started I am Ant, a songwriter with my own recording studio and practice room. I wanted to get a project/band going and it all started at the end of 2010 as a project with Tony Williams. Tony at that time was playing bass guitar with the tribute band REM UK. Tony wrote most of the lyrics to ‘Don’t use that word’ and ‘Self made man’ . Soon others came on board and helped with the arrangements of the songs I had written. Aaron Walker, Dave Pritchard and Jay Clark were very much involved along with Jo Clark and Tony Williams. Jo and I wanted to perform the songs live, but for different reasons the others did not want to. After the songs were recorded they were pushed to one side and the meetings at the studio were less often until Jay and Dave needed to commit to their live band. Tony, Jo and Aaron also had other commitments and decided to call it a day. After a while I decided to make a music video of Self Made Man. I was then in touch again with an old friend I had been in bands with before, Julie Gater. Julie is a vocalist and keyboard player. Julie appeared on the first Video ‘Self Made Man’. The Video was made by Jagel Film mainly filmed in Salford hence the name ‘Irwell’ which was suggested by Rachel Beach the actor who played the wife in ‘Self made man’. The video was quite successful on Youtube, so I decided to do another video after Julie recorded her vocals to the song Lonely girl. Lonely girl was also quite successful on You Tube. Dave Pritchard who played drums on the song also appeared on the video playing drums. None of the others wanted to appear on the video, so the band seen on the video was a mixed bag. One of the guys Tom Fortune’ who appeared in the Lonely girl video and in Self Made also became one of the first lead guitarists in the band Irwell. Tom left the band, as he moved to France with his wife Carolyn. After the success of the videos I was determined to get the live band going. Before Tom moved to France he introduced me to Kirk Brandon a drummer. I already knew Kirk briefly and it turned out Kirk became the drummer in the band. Chris Heaton was an aquantance of mine and joined us as the bass player which is when it came together. We had a band that wanted to play live. Tom then left as I mentioned earlier and we tried it out as a 3 piece with Julie sometimes joining us in our practice session. I was talking to Jo on facebook and Jo joined in on the odd gig as joint lead vocalist along with myself. Julie was not joining us in practice as much, as other commitments took over. Julie then moved to Nottingham to start a new business venture. Julie may join us on some of the gigs when things have settled down for her. We then were in touch with Dave Partner a talented lead guitarist who lived 10 minutes down the road. Dave stayed wth us along with Chris until late 2015. We now have 2 new members and the sound sounds very tight after 3 months solid practice. We now have Marc Gollins on Bass/Lead guitar and Eddie Ogle on Lead/Bass guitar. We have just started recording our 2nd album in the studio We are currently performing songs from the first album as well as performing songs that will soon appear on the second album.
