Annasach (Gaelic for unusual, unconventional) are a three-piece Scottish ceilidh band plus dance caller and has been playing for ceilidhs, parties, birthdays, folk festivals and weddings since 1990 throughout Scotland, as well as UK, Germany, Portugal, France and Switzerland! We have a solid reputation, providing an energetic vibrant sound to entertain your guests. The sound of the band has a more folk based slant rather than traditional ceilidh with the current line-up being fiddle, keyboard and bass. This provides an energetic, vibrant sounding front line mixed with a forceful, funky piano and bass back line. We have a dedicated dance caller, Tricia (probably the most important member of the band!), who has years of experience and is guaranteed to calm any nerves and make sure that everyone enjoys themselves.

The Annasach Ceilidh Band made the evening of our wedding in The Netherlands unforgettable, motivating Dutch and French feet alike to dance the Scottish steps. Even my 62-year-old aunt was on her feet all evening and remarked at the end that from now on, she only wants Scottish weddings. The band also dealt very professionally with some unforeseen circumstances, rebooking their own flights when their original flights were cancelled, taking a lot of stress away from us. I will happily recommend them for any wedding or party in Scotland or abroad, and look forward to visiting one of their Ceilidhs in Edinburgh when we next find ourselves there!

Customer questions

Can you perform covers?

No, sorry we do not play covers. You would however be more than welcome to use our PA system to play your own music to break up the evening if you wanted to.

Do you have different line-up options?

We find that the instrumentation within the band does not lend itself to a reduction in musicians as this would drastically alter the sound. We can add an additional fiddle player if required but this would obviously increase the fee charged.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Of course. If timings should change from those stated in the contract they can be changed if both parties agree and a new contract can be issued.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Whilst we do not offer a DJ service, you would be more than welcome to use our PA system to play music from your own iPod etc to break up the evening. Providing this service outwith our booking times would incur an additional cost.

How much time do you need to set up?

Annasach will arrive at your chosen venue one hour before the agreed playing time to set up. It usually takes us 45 minutes but sometimes it can be a long way from the door to the stage! If your event is running late, please take into account that we will still require this time to ensure that everything is set-up perfectly.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes! Our dance caller, Tricia, (who is probably the most important member of the band!) has years of experience and is guaranteed to calm any nerves and make sure that everyone enjoys themselves. If she can tame Ainsley Harriot then she can do anything!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We would be delighted to play any dance you wish and I am sure our dance caller will know it.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Annasach have their own PA system and lights which all have a valid PAT certificate. You are also more than welcome to provide an iPhone/mp3 player which we can connect to our PA.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, if there is a particular dance or song (subject to being suitable for our instrumentation) that you would like us to play for you then we would be happy to learn this. Please do try and provide as much notice of this as possible however.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Playing for over 25 years together there are not many venues we have not played. From the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen to the Chateau de Varennes in Burgundy.
