Anna Thomas

Anna Thomas is versatile flute player, regularly performing both modern and baroque flute in a wide range of ensembles. She has recorded for film and television and regularly performs with Kantanti Ensemble (audio clips available online) as well as with The Baroque Collective, a period instrument orchestra. Anna also plays frequently as part of a flute and harp duo, performing at weddings and functions. Anna studied at the University of Leeds with Stina Wilson (Principal flute of Opera North) graduating with first class BMus (hons), Trinity College of Music with Anna Noakes, and at Franz Liszt Hochschule fur Musik in Weimar, Germany with Professor Ulf-Dieter Schaaff (Principal flute, Radio Symphony Orchestra, Berlin). Awards include a TCM scholarship, Lawrence Atwell Charitable Trust and EMI Sound Foundation. Anna grew up in Sussex and has performed as principal flautist with orchestras all over the UK at venues such as Glyndebourne. In 2008 Anna was invited to join BYO to perform Mozart’s Concerto No.2 in D major. Anna now enjoys a busy performing and teaching career in both London and Sussex, currently holding the post of flute teacher and ensemble director at Channing School for Girls, Highgate.
