Anna Robinson trained first as a clarinettist at the University of Southampton where she graduated with a distinction in a Masters in music performance. Whilst studying, she played as principal clarinettist with Southampton University Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta, Wind Orchestra and Concert Band. In addition to this she has been a member of smaller ensembles including The Cadenza Clarinet Duet and her trio Claricello with Hatty Goody (cello) and Paul Gardner (piano). Through her music making, Anna has toured to a variety of countries including France, Switzerland, Croatia, Holland and Germany.Anna also has a strong interest in jazz and has played in the Southampton University Progression Ensemble. This gave her the exciting opportunity of performing alongside jazz trumpeter Abram Wilson in a rare performance of Miles Davis’ Porgy and Bess. In addition to this, Anna also performed with Soweto Kinch in the Gershwin Remixed project. Anna currently works for Southampton Music Hub as a single reed specialist. Anna thoroughly enjoys conducting Southampton Youth Concert Sinfonia and highlights include conducting the Les Miserables medley on Cotswolds tour 2017, a performance which featured over 80 musicians! Anna regularly features as a clarinettist in newly formed orchestra Magna Sinfonia the most recent project under the direction of the former young conductor in association of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Frank Zielhorst providing a rehearsal orchestra for violinist Claire Howick ahead of her recording of the Kenneth Leighton Violin Concerto with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Anna’s own musical experiences have encouraged her to work with young musicians to inspire the next generation.
