Anna Lowenstein is a Klezmer violinist from London, training initially in Classical music and graduating with a BA in Music and Ethnomusicology from Manchester University in 2015. She has been studying Klezmer for over ten years and is fast becoming a sought after performer and teacher of the Klezmer fidl tradition. She has travelled internationally to learn from some of the leading performers and teachers of the style. Anna is a founding member of Loshn, a Klezmer trio playing Yiddish folk music alongside Susi Evans (She’koyokh, London Klezmer Quartet) on accordion and John Macnaughton (RAKA, Oysland) on clarinet. From September-November 2021, Anna appeared in the European debut of Paula Vogel’s Toni Award winning play, Indecent at The Menier Chocolate factory. The production was met with wide critical acclaim, and was chosen as The Guardian’s no.1 theatre show of the year in their New Year roundup. Her love of storytelling has lead her to develop a warm, welcoming and communicative performance style that is as educational as it is engaging.

Do you have different line-up options?

Can play solo or can fix a band from duo up to 5 piece. Instruments can include: Clarinet Accordion Bass Drums Cimbalom (Easter European Hammer Dulcimer)

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Can provide either amp for solo performance or provide a PA system for a fee. Also happy to play acoustic depending on the space and requirement of the gig.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If there is a special song you'd like me to learn I am happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £50 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc. ”
