Described as having 'breathless sparkle' by The Times and 'iridescent charm' by What's On Stage magazine, British soprano Anna Gillingham is rapidly being recognised for the beauty of her voice and for her magnetic stage presence. Anna made her international operatic debut as the Governess in The Turn of the Screw at the Opera di Firenze Maggio Musicale. Anna's operatic roles feature Pamina in a run of 22 performances in a new production of Die Zauberflöte at Theater Basel under Christoph Altstaedt; Miss Wordsworth in Britten's Albert Herring at the Opera di Firenze; Frasquita in Bizet's Carmen with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lan Shui, the title role in Donizetti's Francesca di Foix at its London stage premiere, and Salome in Stradella's San Giovanni Battista. Next season Anna will be singing Pamina in a production of Die Zauberflöte for the Opera di Firenze, conducted by Roland Böer. In recital, Anna has sung at some of London's most prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, Barbican Concert Hall, LSO St. Luke's and the Purcell Room, as well as at the Oxford Lieder, City of London and Cheltenham Festivals, and on In Tune for Radio 3. Anna recently joined Martin Fröst at his acclaimed Vinterfest in Dalarna singing Schubert's chamber work Der Hirt auf dem Felsen alongside Gabriela Montero. Recent concert engagements include arias with the Nuremberg and Bilkent Symphony Orchestras, conducted by Matthias Foremny and James Feddeck, and a performance of Handel's Messiah at the London Handel Festival, conducted by Laurence Cummings. Anna trained on the opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and graduated with distinction.
