Tenor & alto saxophonist & vocalist. Performs with bands, solo, DJs, percussionists, and session work. Available for all occasions!

I believe I was a born musician! It's something that I have always been into, from a very early age. The first instrument I learned was the recorder at school, but I actually took it seriously and quickly learned to read music and play quite well on the descant, treble and tenor recorders. At secondary school I started with the clarinet and worked my way through the grades to grade 6, along with singing. At that time, the saxophone was just a second instrument and I took it up again seriously into adulthood, by attending music college in Leeds. My main instrument now is the tenor saxophone for which I play straight ahead jazz, but I also play the alto and soprano, mainly for funk and soul and acoustic gigs. At college I also studied the flute as a subsidiary instrument and took piano lessons. In 2010 I took up playing the trombone snd subsequently the sousaphone as I enjoy listening to and playing reggae, ska and New Orleans style jazz. It was initially a bit of fun but I worked my way through the jazz grades on the trombone and then took that seriously too! I have also run and managed my own bands, which I still do: Brassbound, a funky, jazzy brass and wind street band; Silverrock, a reggae band and The Funk N Disorderleez, a funk, soul and disco band. I do lots of session work and recordings and really enjoy writing horn lines for songs. But my first love is playing live and at the moment, as well as playing with bands, I do quite a few solo performances to backing tracks or alongside a DJ or percussionist. You will always get a professional and lively performance from me, a friendly smile and plenty of engagement with the audience! Choose me for your special occasion and I will deliver a performance to remember!

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will always try my best to be flexible to ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. Please inform me as soon as possible and I will be happy to oblige.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely! As a solo artist, I can provide a full pa with backingbtracks, saxophone and/or vocals. If you would like a live DJ, I can also supply one for you. Price would depend on hours required.

How much time do you need to set up?

To set up my own pa and quickly sound check, I would like to do this at least an hour before the event starts. If you are using your own DJ and DJ equipment, I can be ready in a matter of minutes, as long as the DJ is able to accommodate my microphone,

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I usually play anything at any given time from my playlist but I am happy for you to choose specific songs. In addition, if you would like me to play any song that is not on my playlist, I will be happy to learn it for you at no additional cost.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

If using my own pa, all I would need from you is a power supply!

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If you would like me to play any song or songs that are not on my playlist, I will be happy to learn them for you at no additional cost, providing you give me sufficient notice.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My clients live the fact that I am familiar with many genres, especially the ones that most other sax players do not play (eg: soul, RnB, reggae, Afrobeat). I have strong improvisational skills and I can play along with a DJ without knowing the song already. I also offer vocals as an added bonus!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

The Jazz Cafe in Camden, London; The Hootananny in Brixton, London; The Royal Albert Hall, London (as a teacher/musical director); Addington Palace, Croydon

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have performed at various high profile venues as a saxophonist, singer, bandleader and educator, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Jazz Cafe in Camden and live on national news (performing in Wembley it’s a School based samba band at the 2012 Olympic bid).

Dear Ann Marie and Greg, Thank you doesn't seem enough to say for providing the most amazing music yesterday. You created the exact mood and atmosphere I was hoping for and everyone was blown away with your Saxophone playing and Greg's singing. Brian is still buzzing from the events of yesterday and had a wonderful, memorable 50th birthday.
