Andy Vellacott

Andy was brought up in a musical family and began learning piano and trumpet at an early age before discovering the drums at around age 10 when his brother was lent a small drum kit. Within 5 years he was studying at Grade 8 level and went to off to London at age 16 to successfully audition for some music diploma courses at the Musicians Aacademy and the London College of Music. He spent the next three years studying drums, performance, composition and arranging and also began working at Drumtech where he was technician for great drummers such as Elvin Jones, Ian Thomas and Dave Weckl. In the early 2000's he was asked to join the well known BBC arranger Cy Payne and his Big Band. Around this time he was also asked to play on several theatre tours with members of Hue & Cry, The Rubettes and The Sweet. In 2007 he began writing his own music in conjunction with his brother and founded his own band Vivid Glimpse. Now completing their fourth album they are garnering a good deal of record company interest. As well as pursuing tours, gigs and session work Andy has founded his own online remote drum recording service which he runs from his purpose built studio in Cambridge, UK.
