Having studied music at GCSE and A-Level I took a year off to gain experience in the music industry, and to travel. I lived in West Hollywood, Los Angeles for much of the time, enjoying a work experience placement in a music studio, working with the sound team of an independent film and as the resident musician for a Hollywood theatre company.
I studied music composition between 2000 and 2003, where my knowledge of all manner of different genres of music was expanded considerably.
I became very interested in jazz and put together and gigged in a jazz trio, playing piano.
After I left University I moved to the south coast and whilst keeping my jazz trio going and also joining a function band, I became the resident musical director for an amateur theatre company. I enjoyed producing the music for various diverse shows including Little Shop of Horrors, Scrooge The Musical, Into The Woods as well as various pantomimes and compilation cabaret type shows. During this time, I also worked as the resident pianist in two 5* hotels.
I moved to Kent in 2006 to be near family. I currently play keyboards locally and country wide in a 5pc vocal fronted jazz band, which mostly perform at corporate events, weddings and other private parties. I play accordion in a 6pc world band that plays pubs, clubs, theatres and festivals through out the year, as well as numerous other small trio and duo projects. I am often booked as either a solo piano, guitar or accordion player, often for restaurants, bars etc, but also for parties and weddings.
I act as a deputy (dep) for other keyboardists in numerous bands locally and perform as both a session keyboardist / pianist and accordionist. I sometimes play in theatre orchestras / bands.
In addition to this, I work as musical director with several theatres, and have produced the music for shows including Les Miserables, Phantom of The Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver and Little Shop of Horrors. I have also produced and played the music in various pantomimes.
