Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will always try to meet any updated requirements or different timings - please try to keep me updated on the run up to the event, especially in case of major changes.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I don't usually provide iPod/DJ services, if a setlist is needed between sets we can discuss it thought and I can provide with suggestions relevant to the music we play.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually we reserve 30 minutes to setup and soundcheck.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

We usually select our set lists based on our experience on what songs create the most appropriate atmosphere for every event. They are the result of years of gigging and hours of planning, so usually we try to avoid any change, however we can certainly discuss any special request and make sure we find the right pieces for the event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes we do! From amplifiers to instruments, unless a bigger PA might be needed which is something we usually ask our clients to provide.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song is not included in our list we can learn it if discussed in advance.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My clients love my professional attitude to music, as well as my pure joy and happiness that transpire when I play - it's not just a job but my passion and I share it with my audiences!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Different pubs, restaurant in London, as well as many private venues for private functions!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Right now it's all about Django Reinhardt and the masters of swing!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I treat every gig as the most high profile engagement to ensure my clients and audience the best experience!

These musicians are absolutely wonderful! We had Vivian and Andrea provide beautiful background music for our family party and they were brilliant. They listened to exactly what I wanted and did a perfect job of getting the volume correct so that guests could still talk, rather than having to shout at each other. The communication before the event was excellent and they arrived in plenty of time on the day so they were all set up well before the first guests arrived. They even offered to play Happy Birthday whilst we cut the cake which was such a lovely thing to do. They were cheerful, exceptionally polite and a delight to have at our party. Thank you so so much!

Swing Train 42 were fantastic at our wedding. Andrea was very professional and easy to work with throughout the booking process and the performance itself was superb. Our guests really enjoyed the music and it made our special day that bit more special.

Choosing musicians for a smaller, more intimate wedding is harder than you might imagine. You want something upbeat but not excessively so, something that will add depth and eloquence without overwhelming everything else you do, and something distinctive and a little bit alternative, so that your guests will remember *this* particular wedding, rather than all the other weddings they've attended. For us, Swing Train 42 was absolutely perfect on all these counts. After flipping through dozens of promotional videos for different bands, looking at smooth Jazz, classic Jazz, Swing and pure Acoustic and Folk, we quickly realised that very little fitted what we wanted. Brass and sax were just too pushy; the Folk was usually too melancholy, and for Jazz we just couldn't find the right balance of melodic accessibility and intimate originality. ST42 however was unique in striking the exact right balance of melody, musicianship, and the particular, very attractrive sonal quality of a bass, guitar and mandolin. So far as the booking itself goes, ST42 were a breeze to work with, accommodating and helpful with great communication. They like to do 2x or 3x 45 minute sets, but were happy to accommodate our preference for 4x 30 minute sets instead, so that we could have music to accompany all the important parts of the wedding. We also asked if they could manage several off-repetoire songs, some of which were in a similar style (Paolo Conte), but one of which was totally leftfield (Bob Marley's "Is this Love?") Needless to say, they rose to the occasion with aplomb and did a fantastic job! Andrea, Vivian and Chris are not only first class musicians; they are also really nice people, unassuming and fantastic at what they do. Andrea doesn't blow his own trumpet (if you'll forgive the mixed metaphor), so I didn't appreciate when we made the booking that he also performs at Ronnie Scott's! So with ST42 you are hiring some of the best musicians in the country, at a very good price. The one thing I'd like to point out is that their online videos don't do justice to their range of ability, and they are actually even better than their videos suggest!
