Andre began playing the organ at Novena Church, Singapore at the age of 14, leading congregational singing at Saturday novena services. Later, he was organist at Risen Christ Church at St Joseph’s Victoria Street, and chorister at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in Singapore.
He has trained under Anne Lam (Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Simon Leach (Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh). While in Hong Kong, he was organist at Ricci Hall Chapel and St Andrew’s Church Tseung Kwan O. An active member of the Hong Kong chapter of the American Guild of Organists, he performed at the member’s recital in 2018 held at All Saints’ Cathedral, Mongkok and at a masterclass with Dong Il-Shin at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, and with Jennifer Chou at St Paul’s Church.
In Edinburgh, he is currently organist at St Albert’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Associate Organist at Sacred Heart Church, Lauriston, and in the 2024-2025 academic year organ scholar at Greyfriars' Kirk Edinburgh regularly accompanying the choir on the Peter Collins organ. He regularly deputises at other churches including Palmerston Place Church, Murrayfield Church, Barclay Viewforth, and St Patrick’s Church, Cowgate.
He is an active member of the Edinburgh Society of Organists and contributes to its newsletter Console. He has received bursaries from the Royal College of Organists, Scotland Churches Trust, and the Edinburgh Society of Organists for training and development. In 2023, he participated in Spode Music Week (funded by a Spode Week Bursary), and in 2024, in the St Andrew’s Organ Week, training under the tutelage of Martin Schmeding and Mona Hartmann.
He has performed on various occasions, including a organ and trumpet (Felix Westerhoff) concert at Palmerston Place Church and with the Knabenchor Unser Lieben Frauen Bremen on the occasion of their tour in Edinburgh, with concerts at St Giles Cathedral and Sacred Heart, Lauriston. He also performs as part of a piano trio (Fr. Matthew Jarvis, Mary O’Brien) which has performed on numerous occasions at the Edinburgh University Catholic chaplaincy, with Bianca Morantin as a cello-organ duo and with Elizabeth McCall as an organ-recorder duo.
He is most passionate about the organ’s role in Catholic liturgy, including the accompaniment of Gregorian chant both in the context of Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours as well as organ repertoire intended for liturgical use.
Andre is also interested in organ building history and in 2018, published a volume documenting the history and restoration of the 1912 Bevington and Sons organ at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in Singapore entitled Saving the King: The Organ of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd. The book was published by the Cathedral and represents an authoritative source of the organ’s history. It has been archived at the British Organ Archive, University of Birmingham, and at the National Library, Singapore.
