About Amersham A Cappella

Amersham

We are a fun, dynamic, national award-winning ladies chorus who sing in four to eight part a cappella harmony. Originally formed some 30 years ago, we’re still going strong thanks to the go-getting, team-spirited women within our group. We perform whenever and wherever we get a chance – in competitions, shows, parties, events and the Channel Tunnel! Our members span ages 20 to 60+, and come from every walk of life, but with a common aim: to achieve great things while having an enormous amount of fun, and to spread that joy to every last member of our audience. The chorus was formed in 1982, under the name “Chiltern Harmony” by Ian Stone, initially because the wives and girlfriends of the local male barbershop group wanted to have as much fun as the men were! It became evident there was something rather special about these ladies, and over the years the chorus were fortunate to be mentored and guided by some very talented musical directors: Ian Stone, Gay McBride, Wendy Searle and currently, the rather marvellous Helen Lappert. In 2007, the chorus changed its name to Amersham A Cappella, to reflect the more contemporary feel of the chorus. And it seems the only way is up for Amersham A Cappella, having won a number of high profile awards and invited to sing at many exciting performances: we’ve continuously improved on all our singing and performance scores across all competitive events to date, and our aim is to continue our upward trajectory! We’ve achieved so much over the years – performed in exciting places, at prestigious events, and won many trophies and prizes along the way. A few of these accolades are listed below: 2015 - Silver Medal at LABBS Convention 2014 – Silver Medal at LABBS Convention 2014 – Named Choir of the Day at the London heats of Choir of the Year 2013 – Silver Medal at LABBS Convention 2013 – 5th place in European Convention in the Netherlands 2012 – Silver Medal at LABBS Convention 2012 – Winners of Majestic Tours Choir Competition Torquay 2011 – 5th place in European Convention in the Netherlands 2010 – Winners of Good Housekeeping Choir of the Year 2010 – Chorus Champions – Gold medal at LABBS Convention 2008 – Bronze medal at LABBS Convention 2007 – Bronze medal at LABBS Convention 1996 – Winners of Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year 1994 – Chorus Champions – Gold Medal at LABBS Convention 1990 – Small Chorus Award at LABBS Convention 1989 – Small Chorus Award & Highest marks in Presentation at Ladies Association of British Barbershop (LABBS) Convention
