Finnish-born Alina Hiltunen has been playing the violin since she was five. She held her first solo recital at the age of 14. She took her degree in music education at the North Karelia University of Applied Sciences in Finland under the guidance of Dr. Tapani Yrjola, and studied her Master Degree at the Royal Academy of Music with Diana Cummings and Erich Gruenberg, graduating in 2011. She has been a member of FeMusa String Orchestra since 2011 and done successful tours to Oman, Azerbaijan and France with the ensemble. Alina has played in many chamber music groups, and has worked professionally with the Joensuu City Orchestra in Finland and Ulster Orchestra in Belfast. In 2015 Alina was a member of the Southbank Sinfonia in London and did tours to Italy and Hong Kong with the orchestra.

Alina was wonderful in every way. I was most pleased with the actual performance when I could hear and see how she had really transformed a graphic score into a piece of music which changed the room and held attention. It was very exciting to watch and I'll hope to be able to work with her again on future projects.

It was a great privilege to work with the London Film Music Orchestra in 2018, leading to a performance of 3 works of mine at their Christmas concert. The young musicians are truly outstanding, and possibly better than some more experienced orchestras I have worked with! The girls behind the orchestra are supremely dedicated and were a delight to work with. I look forward to our next collaboration in 2020.
