Alice Luddington is a freelance cellist, available for all types of events. She obtained her Master of Music degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she held a scholarship and studied under Stefan Popov. She completed her Bachelor of Music with Honours degree at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where she studied under Sally Pendlebury and Gillian Thoday. She has also had the privilege of having masterclasses with Miklós Perényi, Natalie Clein, Hannah Roberts, Henry-David Varema and Christian Heubes. She has extensive orchestral experience, highlights include playing Rachmaninov’s heroic 2nd Symphony at the Barbican Centre (Guildhall Symphony Orchestra) and at the Bridgewater Hall (RNCM Symphony Orchestra), Rachmaninov’s The Bells at the Barbican Centre (Guildhall Symphony Orchestra), the Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky (RNCM Symphony Orchestra) and a programme of Debussy sitting assistant principal as part of the RNCM’s French Connections festival (RNCM Symphony Orchestra). She also enjoyed sitting principal cello in the RNCM Chamber Orchestra for Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with soloist István Várdai and Debussy’s Danses sacrée et profane. She was also invited to go to Montepulciano with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra for the Cantiere Internazionale D’Arte. She has also played with the Guildhall Opera Orchestra and Ubu Ensemble. Other engagements include playing with the Northern Ballet Sinfonia as part of their “In the Kitchen” concert series at Chester Storyhouse and the Women of the World Orchestra as part of Sandi Toksvig’s stand up show at the Royal Festival Hall closing the Women of the World Festival. Another of her passions is chamber music. She founded her quartet, Lux Quartet, in October 2015, and the quartet were together throughout their undergraduate years at the RNCM until July 2019. The quartet performed many recitals of both classical and contemporary music at various venues at the RNCM and around the North West of England. The quartet also went on tour to Greece and gave a series of concerts and masterclasses in two cities there, Thessaloniki and Trikala. They regularly received coaching sessions with Donald Grant (Elias Quartet), Sally Pendlebury (Fitzwilliam Quartet), Petr Prause (Talich Quartet) and Jonian Ilias Kadesha (Trio Gaspard). She was happy to be able to carry on her passion for chamber music at Guildhall and was part of a string quartet and piano trio there. The quartet received coachings with Oscar Perks (Dante Quartet), Ralph de Souza, Andrew Watkinson and Garfield Jackson (Endellion Quartet) and Stéphanie Bozzini and Alissa Cheung (Bozzini Quartet). She also greatly enjoys classical crossover, musical theatre and teaching work. Highlights include playing at the Royal Albert Hall and the Dominion Theatre with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, Ignition Orchestra at their debut Garage Classical gig at Liverpool International Music Festival, playing Creamfields Festival with Kaleidoscope Orchestra and being part of an RNCM ensemble backing indie pop band Blossoms at their last tour date of 2017 in Manchester. She teaches piano and cello both privately and as part of London Music Centre.
