Alexander took up the bass trombone at the age of thirteen. Since then he has played in many major youth orchestras. The National Youth Orchestra as Principal Bass Trombone for two consecutive years, the National Youth Brass Band and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. More recently, Alexander has become a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra, and the Britten-Pears orchestra. Alexander has recently started his professional career, working with orchestras such as the Welsh National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, and the London Sinfonietta. Alexander also recently featured on the soundtrack of the 2015 film "Snowden". Alexander has performed in venues such as Royal Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Barbican, and more. Alexander was recently offered the position of Principal Bass Trombone with the Macao Orchestra in China, but decided to continue his studies in London. Alexander won the BBC Young Musician Of The Year 2012 Brass Category final and reached the competitions semi-final, culminating with two solo performances broadcast on BBC 2 and 4 at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and also a solo performance broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Alexander has also performed in chamber groups, with a concert performance at the Wigmore Hall with his trombone quartet. Alexander won the John Solomon solo Brass Competition at the Royal Academy of Music in 2013, and was also a finalist in the Bob Hughes Bass Trombone Competition. He has also studied for and obtained two Diplomas for Bass trombone. The DipABRSM and the LRSM. Alexander was a pupil at Chethams School of Music for ten years, during which time he was invited to play in Norway as a soloist twice. Italy, with the Chetham’s Brass Band and Poland, with the Wratislavia Cantans Festival Orchestra under Paul Macreesh, which was broadcast live on Polish radio.
