Biography Alexander Meikle-Briggs currently studies under Radu Blidar (Violin) and Susie Meszaros (Viola) at the Royal College of Music. Alex previously attended Chetham's School of Music where he also studied composition. Alex has performed in many venues across the UK orchestrally including The Royal Festival Hall, Albert Hall, The Sage, Bridgewater Hall, Cadogan Hall and many more. He has also had the privilege of working under very esteemed conductors such as Stephen Threllfall, Paul Mann, Jack van Steen, David Hill, Natalia Louis-Bassa and most recently under Edward Gardener with the Orion Orchestra. Alex started playing the viola in chamber music in late 2013 and took it up as a study in September 2014 studying under Graham Oppenheimer. He was the violist in the Venus String Quartet that won the York Chamber Music Festival Under 18 category in 2014 in its inaugural year and has performed with his current quartet in Norway, Wales, Norwich and several other venues in Manchester. His quartet were also selected to perform Shostakovich's 7th String Quartet at Wigmore Hall in March 2015. Alex has had several masterclasses with Pavel Fisher, Christoph Richter, Raphael Todes and has received tuition by the Carducci Quartet in . Alex was awarded the Mozart Scholarship for Chamber Music Excellence in June 2015. Alex has attended many music courses such as Aberystwyth Musicfest (2014) and Pro Corda (2008-10), where he has received bursaries. In May 2015, Alex was fortunate enough to be invited to Hellens Music where he was priviledged enough to have one on one tuition, and chamber music coaching with Máté Szűcs, the principal Violist of the Berlin Philarmonic. Alex also received further coaching with Máté in Rostock, Germany. In Summer 2015, Alex was sponsored by Yellow Cabs to attend the International Music Course "Casalmaggiore"in Italy, where he received coaching from internationally acclaimed violist Roger Chase. Alex has also had several of his compositions performed at Chetham's and was Highly Commended in the schools inaugural Senior Carol Competition. Several other compositions include a Guitar Concerto, a Rhapsody for orchestra, two string quartets, a cello sextet alongside other several smaller scale works.
