The English-German counter tenor Alexander Masters spent his childhood in the far and Middle East and began his career as a choirboy in Damascus, Syria. In the Netherlands, the fledgling countertenor won third prize in the National Youth Competition of the Netherlands at the age of 15. Alexander moved to the renowned Wells Cathedral School in 2009, where he studied with Nigel Perrin and Isobel Buchanan. Alexander was also member in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and was on stage with conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Gustavo Dudamel and Daniel Barenboim, and sang in recordings with Karl Jenkins, John Casken, Gabriel Jackson and especially Eric Whitacre. In 2011 Alexander secured a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he studied with the acclaimed counter tenor Andrew Watts. After graduation, he decided to move to Germany for his master's degree in order to study at the University of Arts Bremen with Professors Krisztina Laki and Thomas Mohr. However, Alexander continues to commute between Bremen and England, where he continues to appear. Alexander roles include among others Cherubino in le Nozze di Figaro, Oberon in Britten's A Midsummer Night's dream, Cold Genius in Purcell's King Arthur and Domiziano in Cesti’s il Tito. 2015 He sang the Ottone in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea his first opera role for Woodhouse Opera. He also performed as a soloist for Andrew Laurence King, Baroque harpist, and in collaboration with the London School of Contemporary Dance, where he sang works specially composed for him. In 2015 he made his debut at the London Wigmore Hall with a composition written for him by Sylvia Lim (i C u: a lullaby for a comet). For the season 2016 he was a guest at the Theater Osnabrück, where he played the part of the Comacho in G.F. Telemann's opera ‘Don Quixote auf der Hochzeit des Comacho'. In 2017, Alexander has again worked with Woodhouse Opera, where he performed Endimione in Cavalli's La Calisto and the roles of Arnalta and Ottone in L'incoronazione di Poppea. In addition to his operatic activities, in Germany he is at the heart of the Bremen concert scene. Performing regularly in the HFK Bremen as well as in the concert halls and cathedrals in Bremen. In the UK he continues to sing Oratorio as well, most notably he was a soloist in Handel's Messiah with the East Surrey Choral Society, Bach's High Mass in B with Beaumont Singers, Wells, Bach's Magnificat and Handel's Dixit Dominus with Exeter Bach choir.
