Alex is a freelance percussionist and drummer, with over 12 years of experience. He has played in a variety of groups, ranging from brass bands to symphony orchestras, big bands to small Jazz combos, and samba groups to rock and funk bands (With performances including the RAH, Kings Place and Birmingham Symphony Hall.) He spent over a decade learning the many aspects of percussion at Berkshire Maestros in Reading, and from there is going to The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to study Jazz Drumkit next year.
He was also part of the National Jazz Youth Collective, which connects players with other young jazz musicians across the country. These experiences have lead to taking various workshops and lessons from Nikki Iles, Les Chisnell, Mick Foster, Izzie Barrat, Laura Jurd, Mark Mondesir, Chris Montague, Roland Sutherland, Omar Puente, and Norma Winstone.
Alex has been taught by Martin France, James Maddren, Elliot Bennett, Mike Creech, Alex Neal (Co-principle percussionist of the LSO), and Andy Leask (Practitioner of the famous “Moeller Method”, who was taught directly by one of its founders, Jim Chapin.)
Alex also has his own Jazz Quartet, who perform classic and modern jazz standards as well as Alex's own arrangements and compositions.
