After graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music Alasdair studied for his Masters at the prestigious Royal College of Music, London and graduated in July 2013 with a Distinction.
Alasdair thoroughly enjoys and is heavily involved in orchestral work. During his studies in Manchester, Alasdair was Principal of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, Guest Principal of the Coups de Vents Wind Orchestra and featured in many of the RNCM’s orchestras and ensembles such as Principal of the RNCM Symphony and Concert orchestras. In September 2010, Alasdair was accepted on the highly competitive BBC Philharmonic Professional Experience Scheme. This gave him the opportunity to work and perform with the orchestra including a broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Whilst studying at the RCM, Alasdair enjoyed playing with the college ensembles including principal oboe in the opera and symphony orchestras. Since graduating, Alasdair has had trials for the position of Second Oboe with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Second Oboe with the BBC Philharmonic alongside freelancing with many orchestras in the UK including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Northern Sinfonia, The Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Ensemble Cyrmu and Brandenburg Sinfonia. Alongside his orchestral work, Alasdair is used for recording sessions as well as regularly playing for musical theatre productions in London’s West End and on tour. These have included, Les Mis, Oklahoma!, The King & I, Miss Saigon, The Sound of Music and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He is currently working on the Les Mis UK and Ireland Tour.
Alasdair was a Leverhulme Orchestral Mentor at the Royal College of Music and was also supported by the Robertson Trust.
