Violinist Abel Balazs is a Parnassus Award Holder, studying at the Royal College of Music. He was awarded a full scholarship to study in an Artist Diploma course specialising in historical violin with professor Catherine Martin and Bojan Čičić. Abel has played with several leading period instrument ensembles in the U.K., including Florilegium, Gabrieli Consort & Players, Academy of Ancient Music, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Early Opera Company, La Nuova Musica and The Illyria Consort. In January 2018, he was awarded a grant and became a member of the Theresia Orchestra, an international ensemble specialized in historical performance of the classical repertoire. In this orchestra, he has worked with renowned musicians such as Claudio Astronio, Chiara Banchini, Gaetano Nasillo and Alfredo Bernardini. In March 2018, he led the second violin section of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme Baroque Orchestra. Recently, he was selected to be part of the extra players of the Orquestra Barroca da Casa da Música. He is currently taking part in the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s Experience Scheme 2019. Abel Balazs plays on a Baroque violin by Giovanni Grancino, 1704 (private loan) and a Classical violin by Marc Ariste Soubeyran,1984. He gratefully acknowledges the Royal College of Music for the loan of the classical violin.
