About Extra Lives

The interactive video game concert where YOU are the main character!
Function band
Los Angeles
Public liability insurance of £4 million

Extra Lives is a one-of-a-kind interactive live show where your guests become the main character in a real-time, choose-your-own-adventure experience. Blending live music with storytelling, visuals, and audience voting, Extra Lives transforms any event into a shared adventure. At key moments, the audience votes on what happens next, creating branching storylines, unexpected twists, and a different outcome every time. The show features music inspired by classic video games of the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s, performed live alongside immersive visuals, sound effects and narration. No gaming experience is required; just a sense of fun and curiosity. Extra Lives is highly flexible and can be presented as a solo, duo, trio or full-band experience, making it suitable for a wide range of events, from intimate gatherings to large-scale productions. The show has been translated into multiple langauges and is also supported by regional lineups (including the UK), allowing for efficient local bookings without extensive travel requirements. Originally launched in Los Angeles, the show has since toured internationally across 15+ countries, with performances at conventions, corporate events and festivals including Game Developers Conference (GDC), London MCM Comic Con, Armageddon (NZ), Nordic Game and more... not to mention a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Whether you’re planning a corporate event, private party or unique evening of entertainment, Extra Lives offers something truly memorable: a live show where the audience doesn’t just watch the story... they shape it.

I run an event called Nerd Nite Los Angeles, and have partnered on shows with Extra Lives. Let me tell you, it is always a blast and a half! Every time we've packed the house and the band brings their A game! The management is communicative, the format is captivating, the experience is unique, the set is choice, and above all, the musicianship is exceptional! If you'd dismiss the concept as a gimmick, do so at your own risk. Extra Lives is ahead of the game and puts on an unparalleled and completely original spectacle! I know we'll book them every chance we get.

Extra Lives is an incredibly fun experience to have at an event, whether a part of a bigger event (as they were with our convention), or even just a stand alone experience. I gauge if an element in our event is a success, if it is cool, if it is worth the expense by how the audience enjoys it and reacts to it. If they talk about it after - and Extra Lives added that "extra" touch of fantastic fun that I wanted our guests to experience at our event. I highly recommend them, as they're a lot of fun and put an immense amount of time and effort into make something memorable. They helped make our inaugural San Diego Anime Con a memorable event!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients love that Extra Lives turns a room of guests into one shared adventure. The audience doesn’t just watch... they vote, laugh, cheer, debate and shape the story together. It’s memorable, inclusive, and works for gamers and non-gamers alike.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Our beloved clients include conventions, festivals, universities, theatres and private events across 15+ countries, including GDC, London MCM Comic Con, Nordic Game, Armageddon NZ, C2E2, Los Angeles Comic Con, Gilded Balloon at Edinburgh Fringe, and more.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Extra Lives is influenced by classic video game composers, interactive theatre, live comedy, RPGs and cinematic storytelling. Musically we draw from the worlds of Nintendo, Sega, Square, Capcom and Konami, while shaping the show like a live adventure.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Extra Lives has performed for major gaming and fandom audiences worldwide, including the Game Developers Conference, London MCM Comic Con, Nordic Game, PAX Australia, NZGDC, and an upcoming full run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Gilded Balloon.

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

Extra Lives is not a traditional singer-fronted act. The show is built around live musicians, narration, visuals and audience voting. Depending on your location and chosen format, the lineup may vary, but the experience and quality remain top-notch.

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes. Extra Lives can be presented as a solo, duo, trio or full-band experience. Every version includes the interactive story, live music, visuals and audience voting; the larger formats simply add more live instrumentation and stage impact.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We’ll always do our best to stay flexible. If timings shift, let us know as early as possible so we can adjust travel, setup and performance plans. Significant changes may affect availability or cost, but we’ll work with you clearly and fairly.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can usually provide curated background music before the show or during intermissions if needed. For formal DJ-style service after the performance, please ask in advance so we can confirm the best setup for your event.

How much time do you need to set up?

For full-band engagements we prefer 90 minutes for load-in, setup and soundcheck (since a little cushion can be helpful in case of any venue-side tweaks, or to perfect the audience's experience). Smaller formats may take less, while full-band or complex venue setups may need more. We’ll confirm the schedule with you in advance so the event runs smoothly.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Extra Lives is a story-led interactive show rather than a standard request band, so the music is built into the adventure. That said, we can help choose the best story or format for your audience, theme or event type, and the audience's live votes determine what music we play!

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We provide the core show system, instruments, performance gear and interactive pixel lights. The venue usually provides PA/sound system, screen or projector with HDMI, power and an internet connection for our laptop (which runs in the interactive voting tech). If extra rentals are needed, we’ll flag those clearly before confirming.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Sometimes, depending on the request and event format. Because our music is tied to the story and visuals, requests are not always possible, but we’re happy to discuss special themes, custom moments or commissioned material in advance.
