I believe the sax is the most special practical instrument. From the time I first saw one with it’s beautiful curves and it’s lacquered finish. What really inspired me however is the sound. I believe the saxophone is the closest instrument to a perfectly pitched human voice. It’s a very emotional instrument and there are songs that I play that make me cry. love to put energy into what I play. Playing the saxophone is more than just blowing notes, It’s the extra movements that makes the energy felt. I’ve been playing instruments since I was a baby with the saxophone being my latest project. I started the saxophone after I had longed to do it for 3 years. At the time I was playing the piano so when I finally got the sax I could release my energy into it. What makes me a musician is that I can express myself through the saxophone. I play songs not according to what’s trending. I play according to the emotion I want to express that day. I play according to the mood, The atmosphere, the emotions of everyone else in the room. Sax is beautiful once played in context and that’s why I believe my act is different because I flow with the setting. So I perform with the intent of amplifying emotion. I love the expressions people have when they here me play. When I train people sometimes come running from far just to hear it and that in a way gives me joy. I sometimes play tunes like ‘Hallelujah’ that makes people feel at peace or a song like Hello by Lionel Richie that makes people feel in love. And when I add the expressions and the extra finesse to the saxophone. People feel at piece. Every sax musician has a different style of playing. I prefer to keep mine as close to the original song as possible. I believe that when you respect the original voice of a song then the sax can make it even more beautiful. The songs remain recognised and so I’m always asked to replay songs all the time. People approach me to do gigs because of my style and I like to keep my style original. Sax is what I love doing.
