Frequently asked questions

What kind of music can a violinist play?

Pretty much anything! Violinists will usually be most comfortable playing classical music, but that doesn't mean they won't be able to whip up fresh renditions of your favorite pop, folk, or jazz tunes. Best to check first before asking them to play krautrock though.

Will I need to provide the violinist with any equipment?

Other than a seat for breaks, probably not. If your venue is small, they will likely play unamplified. All they'll need to make the music happen is their violin, a bow, and a receptive audience (oh, and probably a music stand). If your venue is larger, they should be able to provide amplification.

Do violinists normally play with backing tracks?

It depends. If you only want the violinist’s performance to include classical pieces, they probably won’t need backing tracks. If the violinist’s performance includes pop songs or other styles, they may be able to provide backing tracks to fill out their performance. They’ll often perform the melody line of popular tunes, alongside pre-prepared backing tracks (think: ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran, or ‘Skyfall’ by Adele - these songs sound great played on violin!).
