About St Salvator's Chapel Choir

Chapel Choir
St Andrew's, Scotland
The University of St Andrews' flagship choir, based in St Salvator's Chapel.

The current choir is the direct descendent of the earliest students at the university, who would have been expected to perform the choral duties on behalf of what was an essentially religious foundation. In 'Ever to Excel', Norman Reid describes the earliest choristers: 'Lowest in the hierarchy were six poor scholars who would both study arts and be the choristers of the church.' Since that time choirs have been a constant feature of life in and around St. Salvator's Chapel. The present choir is composed of around 30 students at the university all of whom mix singing with their studies.
