About Milly

The #1 Hang drum player in Scotland, guaranteed to mesmerise your guests!
Percussionist
Edinburgh
Public liability insurance of £10 million

My musical life started with choirs and guitar as a child but in my twenties I started playing percussion and haven't looked back! I play a range of percussion instruments including handpans, cajon, bodhran, tabla, darbuka. Handpan/hang drum is my main instrument which I have been playing since 2011. I play in a range of settings including concerts, festivals, restaurants, and weddings as well as in hospitals and care settings. My performance usually includes a range of original compositions and covers, and I often learn new covers for weddings. My most challenging cover to learn was Cantina Band by John Williams (Star Wars). I perform solo or with my band The Enharmonic Collective, including jazz/folk singer and guitarist Caro Bridges and double bass player Tom Watton. I love to play solo at weddings because I have such a special sound which carries beautifully outdoors without amplification. Guests, staff and of course the happy couple are always over the moon with my performance.

Milly played the most beautiful music at our wedding. Her pieces take you through all the right emotions, from absolute joy and excitement to feeling a little reflective and teary. In the run up, she was so easy to work with - responsive, flexible, and just a general pleasure. She learned two songs which were meaningful to us, which was incredible. I don't usually like to be the focus of attention so I was really nervous about going down the aisle. But when I heard Milly's music, I stepped out and felt so happy - I think I ended up popping a little dance move on my way down and everyone chuckled. Everyone says its the little surprises you didn't plan for that make the day, and this one wouldn't have happened without Milly. Everyone loved her and there were lots of comments. Thank you so much Milly! I would highly recommend Milly to any couples planning a wedding.

Milly is amazing. I have seen her play many times and never fails to make my jaw drop. It's a joy to hear her play, the music always surprises me, her covers are interesting and her original material beautiful. A show not to be missed.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

That is not usually a question i am asked, more one for big bands. But depending on your event this may be possible, just contact me and ask.

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually set up about 45 minutes before the performance time as a solo performer, up to 90 minutes in advance if I'm performing with my guitarist.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from performances and learning what works best at different events. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, absolutely! I bring my own instrument to play acoustically. Though a lone of a chair might be welcome!

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! Adapting pieces to fit on the Hang takes time so there is a fee for this service. Contact me for a quote.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients love the uniqueness of the handpan. During/following events their guests often compliment my performance and are intrigued to know more. "Soothing, uplifting, mystical and genuinely unique, I highly recommend Milly and Ryan's performances for any event and audience. Everyone will be wowed and enchanted in equal measures."

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed at countless venues ranging from bars to festivals to castles!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

That is a tricky question to answer, given the uniqueness of the handpan, but here are a few names to mention. Stevie Wonder David Charrier Kabecao Nadishana

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
