About Melos Sinfonia

London

The Melos Sinfonia is an exciting, young orchestra based in London that draws its players from current students and recent graduates of the major conservatoires and universities across the United Kingdom, as well as from orchestras such as the European Union Youth Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Britten-Pears Orchestra and the Southbank Sinfonia. Recent highlights include the Russian premieres of Walton's Façade and Maxwell Davies Eight Songs for a Mad King in the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, the UK premiere of Myaskovsky's 27th Symphony, a concert performance of Rachmaninov's first opera, Aleko, Panufnik's Cello Concerto and Sibelius Symphony No. 7to celebrate the 100th and 150th anniversaries respectively of the two composers. The Telegraph – “memorable, musical, and put together by someone who not only knew what he wanted but, to an extraordinary degree for his age and experience, knew how to get it.” Opera Now ***** – “a highly imaginative and affecting double-bill…faultless in delivery and dramatic emotion and backed by a beautifully schooled seven-piece band conducted by Oliver Zeffman.” Mark Berry – “These are clearly an orchestra and conductor who merit our attention.”
