Scottish Tenor Laurie Slavin recently graduated from the University of St Andrews with an MA (1st Class Hons) in Modern History and International Relations. He is currently in his first year of the postgraduate vocal performance course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama studying with renowned tenor Adrian Thompson. While at St Andrews Laurie sang with The Other Guys: Scotland's Premier All Male Acappella Ensemble and St Salvators Chapel Choir, going on several tours and recording multiple CDs with both groups. Laurie began his operatic career with the Scottish Opera Boys’ Chorus in productions of Tosca, La Bohème and Carmen. A keen Savoyard, he won the Best Male Voice Award for his portrayal of Colonel Fairfax in Savoynet’s production of The Yeomen of the Guard at the 2013 International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival. His operatic credits with St Andrews Opera (now Byre Opera) include Eccles’ The Judgement of Paris, Paris; Berkeley’s A Dinner Engagement, Errand Boy; Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Lensky (in a joint production with Bloomsbury Opera); Handel’s Acis and Galatea, Acis; and Britten’s Albert Herring, Albert. At Guildhall Laurie performs with the Guildhall Consort under the baton of Eamonn Dougan and received high commendations for his performance in the 2014 English Song Competition. This summer Laurie will be covering the title role in Gounod’s Faust for Winterbourne Opera. Laurie is supported in his studies by The Cross Trust and The Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship.
