Joe has been playing the saxophone for around 12 years, and received his ABRSM Grade 8 Alto Saxophone whilst at secondary school. Throughout his time there and into college, Joe studied Soprano and Alto Saxophones with the head of Shropshire Music Service, Alan Atkin. During sixth form Joe learnt with Maria Eglinton, director of music at Shrewsbury School, and has been tutored by Andy Scott and Rob Buckland - saxophonists of the Royal Northern College of Music and founders of the internationally acclaimed Apollo Saxophone Quartet. Joe is currently working under Simon Haram, Professor of Saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music and principle saxophonist of the London Sinfonietta, to further his musical ability. He currently plays Soprano saxophone for the London-based saxophone quartet Fourtune, playing a variety of repertoire from Gershwin to Glazunov. Joe was principle saxophone of the Shropshire Youth Wind Orchestra, and Shropshire Youth Jazz Ensemble before coming to Imperial. Since starting university, Joe has become a member of the School of Medicine Jazz Band, co-leader of IC Big Band and saxophonist in IC Wind Band. Other interests include pit band work, including ICSM Light Opera Society's 'Singing in the Rain' and 'Anything Goes' playing Saxophones, Flute and Clarinet. Regarding singing, Joe was previously a member of 'Voci Forti' Chamber Choir in Shrewsbury. He now sings Baritone for Imperial's flagship choir, Imperial College Chamber Choir and also regularly sings with the School of Medicine Choir and Chamber Choir. Joe is the Bass Choral Scholar at St John's Notting Hill, for whom he sings as part of the scholar quartet leading all sung services at the church. He also sings with the professional a cappella ensemble "The Naturals".
