About Edinburgh University Chamber Choir

Edinburgh University Chamber Choir is the smallest of the three University choirs, directed by Michael Bawtree.

Edinburgh University Chamber Choir is Edinburgh University’s smallest choir. The choir prides itself on furthering its singers' education through performing challenging repertoire at a high standard. It was founded by Professor David Kimbell in 1965, giving its first concert at the end of that academic year. The current Chamber Choir presents 2 main concerts in Canongate Kirk (venue of the Royal Wedding of Zara Phillips to Mike Tindall) – one in each semester – along with many other concerts during the academic year, including representing the University at the Academic Service in St Giles’ Cathedral, High Kirk of Edinburgh. The choir also tours annually, most recently to the Côte d'Azur in June 2017 and Oslo, Norway in December 2017.

“The range of repertoire was extraordinary and I learned so much choral music in those years… There are pieces I absolutely love because I remember singing them with wonderful people, and know every word and note off by heart… The music was always paramount and always to such an incredibly high standard.
