{"id":3234,"date":"2020-08-26T09:34:27","date_gmt":"2020-08-26T08:34:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/encoremusicians.com\/blog\/?p=3234"},"modified":"2021-01-22T23:49:10","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T23:49:10","slug":"musicians-leaving-music-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/encoremusicians.com\/blog\/musicians-leaving-music-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"64% musicians considering leaving the music profession [Survey Results]"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">64% musicians are considering leaving the music profession<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">On average <a href=\"http:\/\/encoremusicians.com\/hire\/wedding-bands\">musicians<\/a> have lost \u00a311,300 from cancellations since March 2020<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">87% fewer gigs booked for Aug &#8211; Dec 2020 than same period in 2019<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Young female musicians have 34% fewer gigs booked for 2020 than men<\/li>\n<li>Music booking platform Encore Musicians surveys 560 musicians<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-m-id=\"3I\"><strong>A survey conducted by the online musician booking platform,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/encoremusicians.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Encore Musicians<\/a>, has revealed that the UK music industry is in a state of crisis as a result of the pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-m-id=\"Uz\">The results show that due to widespread event cancellations musicians have lost on average 87% of their live bookings and with them their main source of income.<\/p>\n<p data-m-id=\"sf\">While some have been able to secure financial assistance from the government (like universal credit and SEISS) and grants from music organisations, many are falling through the gaps and are struggling to make ends meet.<\/p>\n<p data-m-id=\"np\">The concerning result is that the majority of musicians are now considering leaving the profession and are applying for jobs elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p data-m-id=\"1w\">This would lead to a significant contraction of the UK music industry, which contributes \u00a35.2 billion annually to the UK economy and employs nearly 200,000 people.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukmusic.org\/assets\/general\/Music_By_Numbers_2019_Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Source]<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-m-id=\"rQ\">On the results, Encore CEO and Co-founder <a href=\"http:\/\/encoremusiciains.com\/about\">James McAulay<\/a> says:<\/p>\n<p data-m-id=\"lq\"><i>\u201cWe\u2019re acutely aware of the damage the pandemic has done to our musicians\u2019 livelihoods, but I was still shocked to see just how few bookings most musicians have left in the diary for 2020. This problem is being felt across the industry &#8211; from signed veterans to young musicians at the beginning of their careers.
