Musicians: Finding your next gig just got a lot easier

Earning money as a performing musician is tough.

You’ve spent years (maybe decades) honing your craft, but to make a living from it, you may need to spend endless hours networking, trawling Facebook groups and marketing yourself on archaic jobs boards.

Imagine a world where you spent the majority of your time actually making music instead of hunting for your next gig.

Imagine you were notified the moment relevant opportunities were posted anywhere on the web. It’s a world that sounds too good to be true, right?

Introducing: Encore Alerts

Members of Encore now receive email alerts whenever gigs are added that match their profile.

You can choose which instruments to receive alerts for, how far you’re willing to travel, and whether you want to receive unpaid opportunities as well as paid ones.

We do the hard work of sourcing gigs, auditions and other opportunities from around the web. All you have to do is let us know which alerts you’d like to receive.

You can find your alerts preferences here:

1. Where are you based?

There a couple of ways you can set this up. The easiest way is to hit the “Locate me” button, which will use your device’s current location.

Be sure to click “Allow” when your browser asks where you are!

This location data is stored securely and isn’t displayed anywhere on the site. We only use it to deliver relevant alerts to you.

If you’re on the move, you can simply search for a location:

2. How far are you willing to travel?

If you’re a professional freelancer, you’re probably used to travelling long distances for work. If you’re a student, you might only be interested in gigs within walking distance.

To make sure we only tell you about feasible gigs, set your maximum travel distance like so:

3. Which instruments do you want alerts for?

Whilst I have six instruments listed on my profile, there are some I’m much more comfortable performing than others! For now, I only want to know about gigs requiring cello, piano or cajon:

4. Do you want paid and unpaid alerts, or just paid?

This one’s pretty straightforward:

By default, we’ll only send you paid gig alerts.

Apply for Jobs

Once you’ve set your job preferences all you really need to do is keep your Encore profile up to date. If you come across a job you fancy, hit ‘Apply now’, add a covering note, and we’ll ping over your Encore profile to the organiser faster than you can say “Encore, your services to musicians everywhere have exceeded my wildest expectations“.

Coming soon: genres

There’s a whole variety of musical styles out there, and we’ll soon be accommodating for all of them. Ron, for example, doesn’t want to know about orchestral gigs. All he cares about are opportunities to play some sweet, sweet jazz flute.

We hear you, Ron, and we care about making sure you only receives alerts about the smoothest gigs. We’ll have this ready in the next week or so.

For now, let us know what you think about Encore alerts by emailing us at [email protected]
