String duo
London

Viphonix is a dynamic violin duo born in September 2017 from an impromptu encounter between French violinist Maxime Morise and French-American musician Christopher Cohen. The two strong personalities met during their studies at Royal College of Music (London) and started working together around the concept of improvisation and cross-genre projects. The performers feel that “Sound is a time machine that transcends space and time.” Maxime and Christopher conceived the violin sound as a journey allowing the public to discover musical traditions from Baroque to pop practices, going from Russia, culture to American roots. After performing at Estivales de Puisay (France) in summer 2018 Viphonix performed on the main stage of Royal College of Music during the Great Exhibitionists festival of 2019.

The Viphonix concert was an amazing experience, both for its originality as much as for the beautiful music we heard. I would never have imagined that such sounds could be produced using just two violins and electronics. The diversity within the concert format, combining spoken stories, explanations, singing, and of course world-class violin playing, kept the audience on its toes from beginning to end.

I loved that concert !!! I came to the great exhibitionnits festival because I like to discover new groups of musicians and it was a very nice experience. This duo of violinists has a very good stage presence and a very nice connection with the public. Their compositions are really original and express a lot of different emotions. Also they are two fantastic performers.
