UkeRox

UkeRox play a selection of very well-known tunes with our own ukulele spin. We are easy to watch, easy to sing along with, and when you feel like it, easy to dance to. UkeRox metamorphosed from a classic pub rock ‘covers’ band after many years of playing around South London and Surrey. Matt moved from bass to ukulele and became frontman and Bazz joined on bass, Roger & Clive remained on guitar and drums, and then the fun really started, with the unique arrangements of classic songs for dancing and singing along to, creating a great party vibe, and featuring a ukulele! Here’s what we think. “Hey I’m Matt, and UkeRox is my vision. I’m the singer and ukulele player and I’ve always wanted to be in a band that puts the audience first, where what we really care about is how much people are enjoying what we’re doing, and how they are engaging with us. I’ve been playing music from the age of 16, I’ve learned many instruments but my passion is the ukulele, it’s a wonderful happy little instrument that gives this band something a bit different.” “Hi, I’m Clive, the drummer. I drive the band from behind the kit, whether on acoustic or electric drums, and I sing backing vocals. The band is a real enjoyment with a great feel and togetherness not only as musicians but as friends. I perform in UkeRox as an addition to several other bands of very different genres with whom I play the trumpet! I have also been noticed for my whistling, I only whistle on one song in UkeRox, but it seems to make everyone smile!” “So I’m Bazz, the bass player, I’ve played bass for years. I work with Clive to find the groove in every song we play, and we all get lost in the music. I love standing at the front and tapping my feet to the beat. When I feel the audience reaction to UkeRox it’s just the best thing.” “Hi, I’m Roger, the guitarist. I’ve played guitar since I was a teenager. I work hard to find colour and interest for every song we play, so nothing’s ever boring. We try to keep the material fresh, we’re always adding new songs. We keep them true to the spirit of the original and then add our own UkeRox twist. It is my happy place, I love it when people get up and dance.” We have been playing in UkeRox since early 2021, though we have all played in other bands over the years and have many years of individual experience between us. Led by singer Matt on his Ukulele we are very lively, we are not overpowering, and don’t take ourselves too seriously, we love the gigs that you love! We were originally called UkeBox, but it turns out another band have copyright on that name so we changed to UkeRox, some of our publicity material [including reviews] is still under the old name. We joined Encore in July 2022, and will continue to build our profile. We know we would benefit from a professional video and some studio based audio, but at the moment we don't have that. Our video footage is authentic, shot on phones at gigs, so what you are seeing / hearing is what you'll get!
