Born in Huddersfield, Tom did his undergraduate study at Leeds College of Music, specialising in jazz (violin first study, piano second study) and achieving a First. He taught upper strings for Sefton Music Service from 1993-1997 and since 1998 has been a lecturer at the City of Liverpool College, where he is Programme Leader for HE Music. He has also taught at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Salford, where he is currently an Associate Lecturer in Music. Tom has a PGCE in Secondary and Peripatetic Music (Bretton Hall College of HE 1993) and also gained a Master's degree in Music with Distinction (Open University 2005) and a PhD in Music (University of Salford 2014).
