About The Shandoneers

Ceilidh/Folk Band
Scotland
The Shadoneers are the real deal – a band of young professional folk musicians who love playing and teaching dances at Scottish ceilidhs!

The Shandoneers were founded in Edinburgh in 2007, by William Oke and his Shandon Street neighbour and friend, Andrew Mill. They were fed up of seeing corporate bands playing at events, charging too much money, and playing like they didn’t enjoy folk music or ceilidh dance! Something had to be done, so William contacted some friends from the Edinburgh folk scene, and this energetic, passionate and authentic young ceilidh band was born... Our sound is built around exciting contemporary and classic fiddle-tunes, with energetic and innovative guitar accompaniment, backed by virtuoso bass guitar, and solid yet dynamic percussion. So have a dram and get on that dance-floor for one of the classic dances, like the Gay Gordons or Dashing White Sergeant, or a wild and wonderful Cumberland Square Eight or Orcadian Strip the Willow!

We had the immense pleasure of being entertained by the Shandoneers at our daughter’s wedding ceilidh. This immensely talented band absolutely made the evening for all of us. Many guests came from far and wide and had never been to a ceilidh. David Toner soon put people at their ease and had them dancing as if they had done so for years. Four highly accomplished and talented musicians knew exactly what we wanted from them, and WOW! did they deliver!!! Thank you guys, you are awesome.
