Rock, Pop, Jazz & Classical String Quartet based in Cambridge, delivering bespoke, original arrangements with comedy, dignity & sass...

Founded in 2018 at the University of Cambridge, the Pegasus Quartet brings together four young string players, united in our rigorous classical training, and a desire to take apart the music we love, reconstruct them, and experience them in a whole new way. We then share that joy with you and your guests, in such a way that you hopefully will leave wanting more. The Pegasus Quartet comprises some of the most active musicians in the Cambridge scene, all of whom are students. We are a relatively novel ensemble, and are limited in our availability at certain times of the year. Upcoming engagements include: St. John's College May Ball, Emmanuel College May Ball, Jesus College May Ball, Downing College May Ball, Trinity Hall June Event, Robinson College May Ball, Gonville & Caius College May Ball, Pembroke College May Ball, Peterhouse College May Ball and Sidney Sussex June Event. Classical music forms the rudiment of our quartet. However, we prefer gigs with a focus in more modern music, including Rock, Pop, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Film, TV and Game music. We also enjoy trying new things, and with sufficient notice would be delighted to provide Country, Bluegrass, Klezmer, Tango and Chinese Traditional Music. Perhaps you are looking for a group which performs live song requests at an afterparty Jukebox-style, or a classy addition to a grand opening, or a quiet background to a networking event or dining party. Or perhaps you are looking for a themed night or a Chinese New Year celebration. Perhaps you’d like to discuss ideas for how to stage a wedding proposal, or a busk, or a flash mob. We welcome fun and creativity from our clients -- get in touch straight away. We are also very flexible. If you find that the price of a quartet surpasses what your budget can offer, we can offer a trio. Alternatively, if you would like a larger ensemble to make a bigger impact, we can easily expand to be a sextet or octet. Three of us are Baritone and Bass singers holding choral scholarships. And two of us can play the piano to a very high standard. The price and logistics for these can be discussed if this is something you are interested in. Chris, our cellist, arranges all the music we play. Do let us know the songs you would like us to play. If they are popular enough, we will already have it in store for you. And if we don't, fret not. We will add it to our queue for the future. If you really want a particular song at short notice, we will be able to move it to the front of the queue for a special fee. With our unconventional style and original interpretations, we promise to keep your guests on their toes. Message us to find out more.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

If you find that the price of a quartet surpasses what your budget can offer, we can offer a trio. Alternatively, if you would like a larger ensemble to make a bigger impact, we can easily expand to be a sextet or octet. We can also form ANY ensemble consisting of a piano, a maximum of two voices, and a maximum of four string instruments.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.

How much time do you need to set up?

Minimal. Let us know where you want us to perform. Given that there are four stands and four chairs, and we will be able to start right away.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

We have a standard set filled with hits that we know every guest will just love. For themed events, we'd also happily tailor a bespoke playlist. If you send us any ideas, we will endeavour to include them. If any piece is not yet available, we will simply add it to a requests' queue. You may jump the queue; we'll arrange it at short notice for an extra fee.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

We bring our own instruments and our own music. We only ask for four chairs and four stands from your venue. We can bring our own stands if necessary. We can play outdoors, but we ask for a marquee or covering of some sort if weather is sub-optimal.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn't included in our list we are still likely to already know it. If any piece is not yet available, we will simply add it to a requests' queue. You may jump the queue and have it arranged at short notice for an extra fee.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our original arrangements bring out the carefreeness in Ed Sheeran, the calm in Otis Redding, the lush in Hans Zimmer, and the groove in Earth, Wind and Fire. We are zealous in our playing and we give in a lot of thought and energy into creating the best programme for your event.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed mainly within the University of Cambridge, but we are keen to expand our audience!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

The song list will give you a pretty good idea!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

A number of May Balls have invited us to perform, including St John's May Ball, dubbed the seventh best party in the world.
