The word 'hansel' is from old English meaning the giving of a gift to bring good luck. It is certainly good fortune which brought these three talented and highly professional performers together. Originally meeting to play for fun, the group quickly realised their unique style of combining high performance standards and a passionate love for chamber music along with a sense of joy and friendship, was in great demand. The members all graduated from Music Colleges and studied with the most respected teachers around. Sarah Wilson (Violin) studied at the Purcell School and Guildhall School of music and drama. Anna Lusty (Viola) won a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Music and Catriona Bevan (Cello) studied at the Royal Northern College of music. As well as playing with the 'Hansel trio', they all enjoy working as freelance musicians playing in Orchestras and teaching their instruments in schools and musical establishments. The trio enjoy performing at all manner of different scenarios, from lunchtime recitals and schools concerts to providing musical accompaniment to weddings and other formal occasions. They have an eclectic repertoire of music which includes Classical, Folk, Jazz and Pop. Requests can be taken for a favourite song or tune and can be arranged for the trio by our amazing in house arranger! During lockdown, we still managed to keep rehearsing online and gave a socially distanced concert to some residents at a care home. We've also been seen playing outside in Hitchin Town square entertaining those who ventured out during these difficult times.

Beethoven Trio Op 9, no. 1 Congratulations to the Hansel Trio on your sophisticated and spirited performance! Elegant and polished playing, individually and collectively, with details of balance and voicing clearly presented. The Allegro con brio really danced along with sparkle and elegance. The first violin sang beautifully in the second movement, with very sensitive collaboration from the viola and cello. Even without the benefit of a studio acoustic, you managed to convey subtle and nuanced tone colour variety, like the wonderful senza vibrato moments at the end of the second movement. I really enjoyed your performance. Thank you for this, and I look forward to your next performance. Christine Gale Harrison

What a delight to have watched local musicians The Hansel Trio perform last Sunday afternoon online. Their friendly introduction made you feel welcomed & that you were in the room with them. Seeing their enjoyment as they played together was refreshing & endearing. In a time when so many musicians are really suffering from a lack of performance opportunities any chance to listen to groups performing live is a bonus. Their choice of music was great. My only criticism would be that I wanted them to play for longer! It was over to quickly! If you get an opportunity to hear this trio do. You won’t be disappointed. Elly Dobson cellist
