Verified profile

The Element String Trio was formed by Luke Howard, Caroline Waters and Martin McNicholas and is named after the late Peter Element, concert pianist and professor at the Royal College of Music. Peter Element was Luke's piano professor during his four years at the RCM and his style of teaching and approach to the performance of music made profound and enduring impression on his students there. Having worked with Emily Groom on several occasions we were delighted that she agreed to join us so that we can perform from the vast treasure-trove that is the string quartet repertoire and completing The Element String Quartet.

Caroline and her colleagues are the most amazing string quartet I’ve ever heard and was so honoured they played at our wedding last month. It truly was amazing and all our guests have said how talented you all are. From the moment we booked Caroline answered any questions we had and even learnt a piece of music for us for a small fee. Every song we picked was choose and it sounded amazing. Thank you so much for the most amazing music we will never forget you and your talent. Love Jack and Cara xx

We booked the Element string trio for our wedding and they were such a wonderful addition to our day, they sounded fantastic! Caroline was very helpful, friendly and responsive in the lead up, and they even got hold of some new sheet music for us as a special request. Good variety of repertoire of all genres so it was pretty easy to pick a list that we loved. Highly recommend - thank you!

Absolutely wonderful! We booked the Element Quartet for our festive December wedding and we’re so happy we did. They took the time to find extra music so they could play our special requests - including some lovely Disney songs for the kids (who loved dancing to them!) - and it was so special to hear them playing when we arrived at our reception venue. From Christmas carols to film, jazz and modern covers they played everything beautifully and helped to create such a special atmosphere. So many guests commented on how good the music was. Definitely one of our wedding highlights and we’d highly recommend them to others. Thank you again!

We just wanted to say thank you again for playing at our wedding on Friday. It was absolutely beautiful and added that extra special touch to the day. The guests couldn’t stop talking about it and it made the ceremony even more special. We can’t wait to watch back our wedding videos so we can enjoy the music again! Thank you again, Charlotte & Joe

I cannot recommend Element Strings highly enough. We had them perform during our wedding ceremony/reception drinks and they were absolutely amazing from start to finish. They were faultless and their music ability is on a different level. They played a big part in our ceremony and helped us create the most amazing memories. I highly recommend and I hope I get to hear them perform in the future. Thanks again for everything. Shelley x

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients have said they like our friendly, professional approach from the moment they contact us until the end of our booking. They also love the fact that we have such a varied repertoire. I recommend you read our reviews if you have a moment.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at Keech Hospice Care for a celebratory event attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Other venues include - Hengrave Hall, Dodford Manor, Bassemead Barns, Brocket Hall, Waddesdon Manor, Woburn Picture Gallery, Castle Headington, The Barns - Bedford. The Swan hotel-Bedford, Whittlebury Hall. South Farm -Shingay-cum-Wendy...many more!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We have been influenced by so many over the years. Listening to a wide range of music has made us realise that as a string ensemble we can play anything including classical music but so much more than that. Listening and learning from our own professors in the music conservatoires where we have studied has probably been our greatest influence overall!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Our performance at Keech Hospice Care for a celebratory event attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Do you have different line-up options?

We are a flexible ensemble working as a string quartet, trio or duo. We are also able to provide you with a violin and piano duo and even an organist if required! (our cellist is multi-skilled!)

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

If your timings change after a booking we will do our very best to accommodate you. Payment for extra time can be easily be organised. We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know

How much time do you need to set up?

As we are an acoustic ensemble we require minimum time for set up. However we like to arrive between 30 mins -1 hr before the event to ensure everyone is ready and and relaxed.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

We have playlists for each of our line-ups and our clients may choose anything they would like. We have lists for Classical, Pop and Rock and Jazz. We are also happy for clients to request a piece/song that is not on our list as we are usually able to source music quite easily. If the music is unavailable, then we can arrange it especially for the client:)

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - absolutely. We bring everything we need to play! We will require chairs without arms and if we are to play outside we would request some shady spot or cover - this is to protect our valuable instruments.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn't included in our playlist list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. If we need to arrange it especially for you because it is not available to buy there will be an extra fee of between £30-£50.
