The Covered - 100s of performances and happy customers so far! Manager and front man, John, was learning to play guitar when he had a DIY accident which chopped off a portion of one of his fingers! (Note to self - no more DIY! Get someone in!!) This made it slightly more difficult to play guitar so "what now", he thought? Ok so John took singing lessons for 2 years and learnt to sing. "Now what", he again thought?? John mentioned to his wife that he would join a band. "No chance", replied Avril - " you'll never get on in someone else's band, you'll have to start your own! So not ever being one to disobey the missus (!), John set about forming The Covered. They rehearsed for 6 months, producing 10 covers, mainly from the 70s, and John cold called on a few pubs to offer to play for free to get live practice. The 10 songs went down so well, they decided to play them again!! Happily the band now have scores of songs under their belts, have gone from strength to strength since those early days & won 3 awards! (Best Function Band -south east being one of them. They recently played for Bentley Driver's centenary celebrations in a huge circular ballroom surrounded by classic, multi-million pound Bentleys from down the years and have proudly played for many brides and grooms for their big day as well as a number of private parties and corporate events and festivals. John has run companies for many years & makes a point of bringing the same professionalism to the band. He will always make himself available to meet with you prior to your event to ensure your wishes are taken into account & that everything runs smoothly on the day. The Covered's objective is to give every guest a night there'll be raving about for years!

Customer questions

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

We strive to make sure the line-up you see is what you get on the night. We do have pre-audititioned 'dep' musicians available in case a band member falls ill or is unavailable. As a professional band our reputation means everything so you can be confident that all of our players are of a very high level.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line-up is as follows: Male and female lead singers, Guitar, Keys, Drums. We also have an 8 piece option that includes Sax and Trumpet.”

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set until the venue closes, we provide this for an additional £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up and sound check about 2-3 hours before guests arrive. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA and lighting system as well as public liability insurance is included in your quote. We usually require a minimum of 5m x 4m space to perform.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The feedback we’ve received from our clients from numerous reviews is that we have a great set list that keeps their guests on the dance floor which in turn greatly contributes to a successful event!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We tend to perform almost exclusively at private events - weddings, parties and corporate functions.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

The artists that have produced soul Motown pop and rock floor fillets from across the decades. For example songs from Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Chic, Tina Turner, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We are booked this year to play at the 100th anniversary of Bentley. This will be held in a very large circular ballroom, surrounded by 19 classic Bentley motor vehicles worth millions of pounds from across the decades.

🎉Absolutely amazing!! We recently booked The Covered for my husbands 40th Birthday party! They were fantastic, from booking them John was so polite and accommodating, he couldn’t do enough to make the night a success! So many friends and family kept complimenting on the fantastic performance you guys put on, the quality of sound was amazing! It was hit after hit after hit! 🎉 It was an outside event, and even though the rain came...they kept the dance floor full, the superb songs kept coming and we danced and sang in the rain! Such a friendly group and I would highly recommend them! 🎉You were awesome!! All I can say is THANK YOU SO MUCH! Alice x

We had the guys come up and play for our wedding. Everything was fabulous - including admin and communication. Sound was great - loads of good songs, lots of energy, and the group were excellent putting up with our delays on the day! The dance floor emptied at the break, but John and all started up again and it filled up! Great energy and would certainly book again.

Booked to play at a joint 60th party for me and my twin sister. John was a pleasure to work with during the booking and planning stage. The band are very professional and John and Sara were great lead singers with so much energy and passion backed by a fantastic band. Great interaction with the audience who were up on their feet from the first song to the last. We didn’t want it to end. Many of my friends wondered where I’d found you guys and said what a brilliant band you were. I’d recommend The Covered without hesitation and will also keep an eye out for where they are playing as I’d certainly be interested in seeing them live again or will book them for the next family celebration. The ForHelen Fund Raising Dinner was an immensely important event. It was the culmination of a series of activities honouring my late partner, Helen Barron, and raising money for an important new Centre for Cancer Immunology being built at Southampton General Hospital. The first half of the evening was business, raising money, and the second half was ‘party time’. With such a wide age span, ranging from young twenty something to old seventy something there is always a doubt, at least in the organisers mind that the music will bridge the span. We need not have worried. ‘The Covered’ absolutely got it right. They played fabulous music both creating and responding to the atmosphere as a well as playing some special very meaningful requests. The more than 230 people all had a ball and the success of the function owes a great deal to professionalism and quality of their performance. Top notch! I would use them again without hesitation.

We searched high and low for our wedding entertainment as we only had a small party: 30 guests, many of whom we knew would leave not long after our wedding breakfast, and in our experience, the smaller parties are harder to cater for with less room for error. Eventually, after months of web searches, recommendations and arguments, we found The Lash Monkeys’ website and after viewing a sample playlist and speaking with John, we were certain that this was the band that would deliver us a knock out night. The package was totally flexible and accommodated our every wish, right down to the finest detail, and we gave John a fairly free rein with regards to genres of music we had asked to be played; to use his intuition as the night progressed. It was perfect. There was only about 2 tracks played before everyone was up on their feet dancing away- particularly hard to do with such a small party, and everyone had a wonderful time. The talent from this band far supersedes our expectations and although helpful to watch their videos on their website, actually seeing them live does them far more justice. They are incomparable to any other local bands we have seen over the years and if we ever had any other event, they would be at the top of our list, without hesitation. First class entertainment, first class talent and they delivered a first class service. I wish you all well and seriously hope to cross paths with you again.
