Tagline is one of the most exciting a capella quartets in the UK, and their fresh and innovative approach to music-making has won them acclaim and recognition across the globe. Taking inspiration from swing era musicians like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin alongside great barbershop quartets like Bluegrass Students’ Union and Ringmasters, Tagline will put on a show that you’ll never forget. They started singing together in early 2012, having met while studying Music at the University of Manchester, and quickly rose through the rankings to win the British Association of Barbershop Singers Quartet Championship in Llandudno in May 2015 with the highest score in the competition’s history. Along the way, they picked up the Novice Quartet and Youth Quartet championships in 2013, and were also the most improved quartet in 2015. In the spirit of the great swing musicians of the ‘50s, Tagline sing a number of classic tunes in a way that you’ve never heard them before. While the quartet’s interpretations of these songs are still informed by the barbershop style, they have their own distinctive musical voice thanks to arrangements from their tenor, Ben. They also sing a range of other songs, from musicals and Disney films to pop and jazz. In the short space of time that the quartet has been together, Tagline has already had the privilege of performing across the UK, from Manchester to Brecon, Tonbridge to York. They’ve even had the chance to perform in North America at two Barbershop Harmony Society International Conventions, in Toronto and Las Vegas. But, they’re always looking to perform in new places.
