Susan was born in Wiltshire and educated at Newton Park, Bath, where she was awarded a BA Honours Degree in Music by The University of Bath. Post Graduate qualifications include LRSM, CTABRSM and Dip ABRSM. She studied voice, piano and viola to Grade 8 ABRSM before entering College, where she specialised in Vocal Performance with Cynthia Glover and Composition. Since completing her studies, she has established a career as a freelance Soprano soloist throughout the UK, combined with performances further afield, including concert tours to mainland Europe. Susan also performs with Bath based professional ensemble, Opera Sulis, for whom she is Artistic Director. She has studied with a number of notable singing teachers and repetiteurs, throughout her career. Past singing teachers include Cynthia Glover, Penelope Price-Jones, Alison Mary Sutton, Rosalind Plowright, Simon Phillippo at WNO and most recently, Rosa Mannion. Operatic roles to date include; Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly), Carmen and Michaela (Carmen), Laura (La Gioconda), Pamina (Magic Flute), Dido and Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Emilie (Les Indes Galantes), Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte), Giulietta and Mother’s Voice (The Tales of Hoffmann), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel) Susanna/Countess (Marriage of Figaro) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni). In 2009 she was invited to create the role of ‘The Goddess of Victory’ in Bath International Festival’s production of a new opera ‘The Battle of Quiberon Bay’, performed at The Roman Baths and directed by Robert Howarth (OAE). Susan has an extensive knowledge of the Oratorio repertoire and performs with a number of Choral Societies as a visiting soloist. Susan continues to perform regularly with Opera Sulis, Opera Da Camera and Opera D'Amici and regularly plans events and performances in her own right, ranging from Weddings and Memorials to Opera Dinners and programmes for Music Festivals. Susan also works closely with pianist Nick Goodall, performing a range of formal concerts and recitals. As a duo, they also provide selections from the Great American Songbook era to accompany all kinds of events and have performed at The Pump Rooms in Bath, as part of the Summer Season. Susan works as a visiting singing teacher at a number of independent schools in Wiltshire, preparing pupils for ABRSM, Trinity/Guildhall, LCM Music Theatre and Popular Music Vocal exams. She also prepares candidates for all performance aspects of the GCSE and A Level syllabuses. She is a full member of the ISM (Institute and Society of Musicians).

An excellent performance at our Last Night of the Proms event.  The Village Hall Committee run this event every second year and members of the audience told us that this this years event was the best ever.  Thank you Opera Sulis.
