Born and brought up on the Isle of Skye surrounded by Gaelic song, music and culture, Steaphanaidh's music is largely influenced by her Gaelic roots as well as her extensive classical training. This mix of the traditional and the classical has been fused with playing modern, contemporary music giving Steaphanaidh's music a distinctive tone, sound and voice. Steaphanaidh graduated with a first class honours degree on the pedal harp from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2017. Upon graduating she studied the harp in Brest, Brittany for a year. Whilst at the Royal Northern College of Music she established a flute and harp duo called ‘Duo Reul’ who were finalists in the British Harp Chamber Music Competition in 2015 and also performed in many venues including at the Isle of Skye Festival, Didsbury Coffee Concert Series, and the Didsbury and Chorlton Arts Festivals. She has also been featured playing live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ playing Jeffery Mumford’s ‘Echoes From Within Brightening Fabric’ for Harp and Vibraphone. Steaph has twice been nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards. She have also played at numerous festivals all over the UK- highlights being Celtic Connections, the Hebridean Celtic Festival, the Cambridge Folk Festival and the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2018 Steaphanaidh won the prestigious Gaelic Traditional Singing Gold Medal at the Royal National Mod. Since then she has gone on to sing at Dover House in London, at Am Bothan in Edinburgh and representing Scotland at the International Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland. She was the winner of the 2019 International Pan Celtic Festival traditional harp competition.

Customer questions

How much time do you need to set up?

Approx. 30 minutes set up time

Do you need any equipment provided to play outdoors?

None at all - my instrument is played acoustically so I don't need any equipment. If it is raining then I will need full cover or to perform indoors as my instrument is valuable and could be damaged.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I will provide you with a personalised experience and guide you throughout the process. My repertoire list is extensive, covering modern pop and film music, celtic music and classical music. I am always happy to take your requests and can guide you on your music choices.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn't included in my repertoire list there may still be a chance I already know it. If there is a special request you'd like me to learn I am happy to do this for you. I will need plenty of advance notice in this case.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My music is largely influenced by my Gaelic roots as well as my extensive classical training. This mix of the traditional and the classical has been fused with playing modern, contemporary music giving my music a distinctive tone, sound and voice.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

The Royal Albert Hall, The Usher Hall, The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Celtic Connections, Hebridean Celtic Festival
